Warner Music buys Spotify curation platform Playlists.net

Playlists.net canvasIn July, we wrote that Playlists.net, a platform for sharing Spotify playlists, was looking for a buyer. Today, the hoped-for deal was announced. The UK startup ShareMyPlaylists has been acquired by the artist and services arm of American recording giant Warner Music Group. Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed. The Guardian reported that Playlists.net will remain a standalone unit under Warner’s WEA subsidiary. The curation platform now has more than 150,000 playlists aggregated under its umbrella.

“We were approached by WEA earlier in the year to discuss ways in which we could collaborate and it became apparent that there was much to be gained by us joining forces,” according to the startup’s founder and CEO, Kieron Donoghue. He said that the investment from Warner would help him and his team to further grow into the streaming ecosystem.
