Vevo had more than 10 billion video views in January

Vevo canvasVevo announced updated viewing data for its music-centric video hosting platform, reporting that its clips had more than 10 billion monthly video views in January 2015. The figure marked an 86% increase year-over-year for Vevo. Also, nearly half of the company’s monthly views are now generated on mobile devices and connected TVs. Its viewership is also a global one, with only about 20% of its views coming from within the U.S.

Vevo had a somewhat turbulent 2014, with the company going up for sale and then taken back down. It also lost its founding CEO. The company hasn’t revealed much beyond the viewer numbers, but it has paid out music royalties of more than $500 million since 2010. Vevo has been pushing into original programming too, which could increase its appeal to buyers, but even with the new viewer numbers, the company’s fate still seems uncertain.
