Spreaker connects World Radio Day to podcasting with free podcaster sign-up

Spreaker, a podcast creation and listening platform, is supporting World Radio Day and throwing a splash of promotion on its service by offering free “On-Air Talent” accounts for a trial month.

World Radio Day is focusing on a young-broadcaster theme this year, and Spreaker positions itself as an attractive platform for young people to jump into broadcasting via on-demand Internet audio. They (and anyone) can get the free trial month by registering with the code WORLDRADIODAY, the company told RAIN News.

“Currently, 26 percent of the world’s population is people aged between 10 and 24, more than a quarter of the total 7 billion,” said Spreaker in its announcement. “Yet there is a noticeable lack of young voices on the global airwaves. Only through linking generations can radio live up to its potential as an inclusive vector of culture, education and information. Spreaker aims to close this gap by encouraging the youth to jump into broadcasting through podcasts.”

“Radio is currently in the throes of great transformation with the rise of podcasting and live audio streaming services, and it’s being  reinvented by young people,” said Spreaker CEO Francesco Baschieri.
