Spotify enters the Webcast Metrics Top-20 Ranker, a monthly report from Triton Digital which ranks the top 20 of its measured clients. Spotify joins the group at #2 in Average Active Sessions (AAS, which is Triton’s version of AQH) with 688,000 for January. That AAS puts them at 35% of size of Pandora and 2.7 times the AAS of iHeartMedia, which was in the #3 spot.

RAIN News reached out to Brian Benedik, Spotify’s VP of North America, Advertising & Partnerships. “Spotify is very excited to participate in the January 2015 Triton US Monthly Audio Ranker,” he told us. “Our partners are always asking for validation on the scale of Spotify in the US, and this monthly ranker provides that service with census based streaming audio consumption. With 35% audience growth over the last 7 months, and by far the fastest growing platform in the space, I’m thrilled to provide our clients with additional insights to inform their investment decisions.”

Three of the top five streamers in the Ranker of Triton measured clients are now Internet-only pureplays (Pandora, Spotify, and Slacker).

Spotify’s influence on total measured streaming for January distorts a month-over-month comparison of overall webcast listening as represented by the Top 20 Ranker. We will resume the month-over-month comparison in our coverage of the February report.

Looking at individual month-over-month activity in the top-20 group, ESPN Radio was the big gainer, with 42% more Average Active Sessions. (As always, we look at Triton’s metrics through the lens of Mon-Sun, 6am-midnight, domestic U.S. streaming.) Beasley rose 23%, and Hubbard 12%.

ESPN also held sway in the individual year-over-year view, with 33% more AAS. AccuRadio had the same percentage gain over January, 2014.

Here is the historical trend chart of the top five leaders:
