Samsung phones in two markets will have FM chips unlocked

New Samsung phones in U.S. and Canada will be sold with their FM chips unlocked. The tech manufacturer is working with NextRadio to activate the existing FM chips in smartphones for those markets.

NextRadio has been collaborating with several manufacturers to enable the FM chips that exist in most modern smartphones. HTC, Motorola, and LG have already agreed to enable the chips in their devices to receive FM broadcasts. The FCC made an unusual request to Apple to activate FM chips in iPhones, which was unusual since Apple’s later models don’t have chips that can be remotely enabled.
