PRX launches Podcast Garage, a Harvard-connected training and recording facility

podcast garage 300wPRX, the world’s largest open marketplace for public radio, is opening Podcast Garage, a training and recording facility meant to assist the professionalization of budding podcasters.

“The Podcast Garage will be our skunkworks,” said Kerri Hoffman, CEO of PRX, “an open space where creative serendipity can take root.”

Podcast Garage is a combination school and rental studio facility. Classes on audio production and “narrative skill-building” will be offered. As a retail cluster of podcast recording studios, the Garage allows anyone to book time in a four-person studio and a single-person voice booth. We prowled through the reservation system, where studio time can be booked starting next week at one dollar per minute, in quarter-hour increments.

The studio equipment is sound-isolated, and includes Shure and Sennheiser microphones, and Pro Tools audio editing.

Podcast Garage is located in Zone 3, a Harvard University initiative of experimental programs, retain ventures, and other business ideas along Western Ave. in the Allston Brighton neighborhood across the Charles river from Harvard’s campus.
