Prince removes his music from streaming services

Spotify PrincePop performer Prince has started removing all of his music from streaming platforms. His discography went down at Spotify this morning, and a note on his artist page reads “Prince’s publisher has asked all streaming services to remove his catalog.”

Based on our survey of music services, Prince’s music has also been taken down at Rdio, and it never even launched on Apple Music. We did find him on Google Play All Access and Rhapsody, and other sources are reporting that he’s still to be found on Tidal, Deezer, and SoundCloud. It’s not clear whether some services have been slower than others to respond to the publisher request, or if Prince is just selective about which streaming he likes. And even if he does disappear from those last holdouts, you’ll probably be able to get your “Purple Rain” fix on YouTube.
