Line Music launches for trials in Thailand

Line Corporation canvasAs rumored in December, Japan-based messaging app Line has launched a Line Music service for a trial in Thailand. The service is available within Line’s flagship mobile software as an in-app purchase for 60 Baht (about $1.80) per month. The new platform will let users listen to music and share songs with friends either in individual or group chats.

The size of Line Music’s catalog has not been confirmed. So far, Line Music has confirmed a licensing agreement with TS Music, a Thai label group that is delivering at least 10,000 songs to the service. However, it seems to be missing a tie-up with GMM Grammy, which Billboard reported would be the biggest potential deal for Line Music; its combined imprints hold between 70% and 80% of Thailand’s music industry. The app has about 33 million active users thus far.

Line made its first foray into music with the acquisition of MixRadio. That music service, which was once a Microsoft exclusive, recently became available as an iOS and Android app.
