Indonesia launches DAB+ digital radio service

DAB logo canvasIndonesia has launched its first DAB+ digital radio. The broadcasts, the first DAB+ services for a market Asia Pacific market, are being operated by Radio Republik Indonesia. The launch also makes Indonesia one of the world’s largest DAB+ markets, thanks to the population of more than 250 million people.

“Congratulations to Indonesia on being the first major market in the Asia Pacific to launch its permanent DAB+ services,” said Joan Warner, CEO for Commercial Radio Australia and WorldDAB Asia Pacific chair. “Indonesia has a strong manufacturing industry in the Asia Pacific in electronics and vehicles and we look forward to working with RRI to showcase the advanced DAB+ features on connected receivers and smartphones.”

In a global outlook given by WorldDAB President Patrick Hannon at the start of 2016, he noted that several Asian nations had DAB trials underway or proposed.
