Samsung and Google have secured a deal to make Google Play Music the preferred music player on Samsung mobile devices. Google is offering some Samsung-exclusive features in its music platform, such as a cap of 100,000 tracks that can be uploaded to a person’s cloud locker (the regular limit is 50,000). More special features for Samsung are reportedly in the works, as is integration with Samsung smartphone assistant Bixby.
Consumers who buy the new Samsung Galaxy S8 phone will also get a three-month free trial of the subscription music service if they are new to Google Play Music. The media platform often falls behind Spotify and Pandora in consumer surveys, but the added prominence in the Samsung ecosystem could help Google Play Music to convert more paying customers.
