Germany to expand DAB+ coverage with new broadcasting locations by 2016

German flag canvasMedia Broadcast has set a goal of increasing the number of DAB+ broadcasting locations from 61 to 110 by December 2016. The expanded network is projected to boost the range of digital radio from 60% to 82% indoors, while mobile reception coverage should grow from about 63% to 93%. The first of the new locations is slated to launch this fall. Media Broadcast is a European broadcast technology provider to radio and television. The company conducted the first trial broadcasts with DAB back in 1989.

Several European nations have been making moves to grow their digital radio coverage in the coming years. Norway has a timeline for a complete shift to digital FM. The UK is adding a new consortium of DAB stations, and France is also making plans to grow its digital infrastructure.
