Fox News starts daily morning brief to compete with NPR and NYTimes

Today Fox News launched The Fox News Rundown, a daily morning podcast positioned to compete for share of ear with Up First (NPR) and The Daily (New York Times) in the quickly heating-up category of on-demand morning news briefing.

The new program (listen here) cuts a clear sonic identity in its audio production, and to our ears could be described as an audio version of the Fox News cable channel. The first voice you hear is Bret Baier. Regular billed hosts are Dave Anthony, Lisa Brady, and Jessica Rosenthal. Guest commentators will be featured. The music soundtracking and broadcast-style voicing evoke the blasting urgency of cable news.

The daily briefing category is luring major players. Fox launched this program with little promotional lead-up, while Vox Media is in mid-development of a morning program to launch in Q1 of 2018. BuzzFeed is in the game, too, with a lightly produced, informally voiced morning update called Reporting To You.

The Fox News Rundown will drop each weekday.
