If you follow pop or rap music news, then you know Drake has been one of the most dominant artists of this year. He’s closing out 2016 with yet another feather in his cap: his track “One Dance” is the first on Spotify to accumulate more than 1 billion plays on Spotify.
“One Dance” is off Views, which dropped earlier in the year as an Apple Music exclusive. The track has also been at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for ten weeks (which counts streams toward performance). The quick progress up the Spotify play count is interesting, a testament to Drake’s star power and fan base as well as to how a highly-anticipated exclusive might perform when it opens up distribution to other platforms.
