Bulgaria begins tests with DAB+

Bulgaria is beginning its first trials of DAB+ digital broadcasting. The country’s Communications Regulation Commission has issued a trial license to EF DIP Treiding for transmitting DAB/DAB+ radio in Sofia. The nation’s media and broadcasting industries met with the CRC in March to discuss the potential for future rollouts of the radio technology.

DAB and DAB+ technology have been gaining traction worldwide, but growth has been especially strong in Europe. Norway made the official transition to digital-only radio at the start of the year. The UK is also a standard-bearer for that shift, with digital listening securing an ever-greater share of radio hours in recent RAJAR and Ofcom results.
