American Public Media launching summer podcast intensive for high schoolers

American Public Media and Putney Student Travel are hosting an immersive podcast program aimed at high school students. The Summer Podcast Institute is a two-week educational program in St. Paul, Minn., for students interested in podcast and audio production. It will introduce participants to the development, production, and execution of podcasts and to audio storytelling. APM talent — including Molly Bloom, host of Brains On, and Stephen Smith, executive editor of APM Reports — will mentor the students.

“Podcasts offer some of the most exciting creative and career opportunities in all of media, but there are so few ways for young people to get started in this field,” said Nathan Tobey, American Public Media’s director of on demand and national cultural programming. “We’re thrilled to partner with Putney Student Travel to help change that, training the next generation of podcast makers.”

“As a leader in innovative programming and podcasting production, APM is an ideal partner with whom to launch the country’s first podcasting school of its kind for high school students,” said Alexandra Bodel, director for Putney Student Travel. “We look forward to combining our experience in educational program development with APM’s expertise to create the Summer Podcast Institute.”
