The company is in discussions with Indian record labels to acquire music rights for the eventual rollout. This music platform is separate from Amazon Music Unlimited, which debuted in the U.S. in late 2016. Amazon Music Unlimited is not available yet in India.

The country is already host to several music services catering specifically to Indian tastes. Saavn and Gaana feature music by Indian artists and from Bollywood films. Also several international streaming services, such as Apple Music, are now operating in India. A report from Deloitte projected that about 273 million people in India are expected to listen to music online by fiscal year 2020.
