7digital to power upcoming hi-res HDmusicStream service

7digital has signed on to power a high-resolution streaming music service. The new client is HDmusicStream, a service launched by the founders of HDtracks that will use MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology. HDmusicStream is expected to launch in the second half of 2017.

“Recent announcements by Sony Music Group and Merlin confirm that MQA has secured major and independent label support for its technology,” 7digital said in a statement. In its year-in-review for 2016, the company noted MQA as part of its upcoming plans.

7digital will be responsible for app development, hosting the music catalog, and delivering tracks to listeners for HDmusicStream.
